The History of Teacher's Day?
The tradition of celebrating teachers dates back to ancient China, where Confucius (551–479 BCE) was venerated as the "Great Teacher". Confucius promoted moral integrity, lifelong learning, and a hierarchical but respectful teacher-student relationship.
In 1939, during the Republican era in mainland China, the Republic of China (ROC) government officially designated September 28 as Teacher's Day to honor Confucius's birthday.
When the ROC government relocated to Taiwan in 1949 following the Chinese Civil War, it retained Confucian traditions, including Teacher's Day on September 28.
During the authoritarian era (1949–1987), Confucianism was promoted as a moral and cultural foundation to support order and education.
Teacher's Day was institutionalized in schools, public events, and ceremonies, reinforcing the idea that teachers are moral guides and nation-builders.
