Father's Day is a public holiday in Puerto Rico, observed on the third Sunday of June each year. The holiday is in honor of fatherhood and paternal bonds. People celebrate Father's Day in different forms and on different days worldwide. The original celebration of Father's Day has been recognized in some way for centuries. At the same time, the first modern Father's Day was celebrated in 1910, a few years after Mother's Day was first celebrated in the United States.
Sonora Smart Dodd was known as the Mother of Father's Day. Inspired by Anna Jarvis's effort to establish Mother's Day after hearing a sermon in a church, Dodd began trying to make Father's Day a recognized holiday in 1909. Other countries gradually adopted the celebration.
Father's Day is a chance for children to tell their father how much they love him in many ways, such as through cards, gifts, and meals.
