Family Day (Palau)

Family Day is a public holiday in Palau, and it is observed on the Friday following Thanksgiving Day or the fourth or fifth Friday in November each year. The holiday is to celebrate the value and emphasize the importance of families.

The United Nations created the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI) in 1947 under the United States administration.

On May 10, 1979, four Trust Territory districts formed the Federated States of Micronesia Constitution. Still, the district of Palau opted for independence, and the Republic of Palau was established in 1981.

On October 1, 1994, the Compact of Free Association, signed by the Republic of Palau and the United States, was enacted, and Palau achieved its independence.

People in Palau celebrate Thanksgiving Day, like the United States, on the fourth Thursday in November. Many people will celebrate Thanksgiving Day together with families and friends. Many people will take Friday off and have a four-day long weekend. To emphasize family values, Family Day became a holiday in Palau following Thanksgiving Day so people could have more time to gather together.
