F8 is to turn the extend mode on/off, to extend a adjacent selection.
Step 1: Press the F8 key from the keyboard to turn the extend mode on;
Step 2: Click any cell in the worksheet (e.g., A1);
Step 3: Click any other cell (e.g., D4), and the range A1:D4 will be selected.
