Dayton Agreement Day (Republika Srpska)

Dayton Agreement Day, also known as Dayton Accords Day, is a public holiday in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is observed on November 21 each year. The holiday commemorates the peace Dayton Agreement, which was initialed in Dayton, Ohio on November 21, and signed on December 14, 1995 in Paris.

Following the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence on March 3, 1992, following the independence referendum. The referendum was held between February 29 and March 1, 1992, and 99.7% of voters voted for independence.

On the same day, Bosnian Serbs also declared a severance of governmental ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina, which triggered the Bosnian War. The war lasted over 3 years until December 1995 when the Dayton Agreement was signed in Paris.

In the Agreement, the territorial boundary was delineated, and Republika Srpska was recognized as one of the two main political-territorial divisions.
