Constitution Day (Kazakhstan)

Constitution Day is a public holiday in Kazakhstan, and it is observed on August 30 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary when the Kazakhstani Constitution was adopted in 1995.

In 1936, the territory was officially separated from the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) and became a republic in the Soviet Union.

On December 16, 1991, Kazakhstan declared independence and became the last republic to declare its independence during the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Nursultan Nazarbayev became the first President of Kazakhstan.

After its independence in 1991, adopting a new constitution became inevitable for the new Republic of Kazakhstan.

On August 30, 1995, the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan was adopted, followed by a nationwide constitutional referendum in which 90% of voters voted for a new constitution.
