Community Service Day is a public holiday in the Commonwealth of Dominica, and it is observed on November 4 each year. The holiday is celebrated the next day after Independent Day.
The Commonwealth of Dominica is an island country in the Caribbean Sea and gained full independence from the United Kingdom on November 3, 1978.
Community Service Day originally started from the campaigns cleaning up the mess left on the streets after the Independent Day celebrations. It has become a nationwide clean-up activity nowadays. The government funds communities to buy gloves, garbage bags, and other related supplies to support the activities.
In the beginning, people mainly focused on cleaning ups, but in recent years, people also started to pay attention to beautification campaigns. Community services are common in all countries, but only in Dominica, there is a public holiday celebrating it.
