Behdienkhlam

Behdienkhlam, also known as Beh Dienkhlam, is a regional holiday in the state of Meghalaya, India, and it is observed in the month of July each year, after the sowing period.

Behdienkhlam is a harvest festival. It is also one of the important dance festivals in the Jaintia tribe in Meghalaya. The word "Behdienkhlam" means to get rid of evil spirits. During the festival, young men traditionally beat the roof of houses with bamboo poles to drive away from the plague and disease. It is also to pray to the Lord for a bumper harvest.
