How to Add a Happy Face and Turn into Sad Face in Excel

In Excel or Word, you can add a happy face by inserting a "happy face" shape, however, there is no sad or neutral face shape to insert to your Excel worksheet. Please see below for details to add a happy face and turn it into a sad or neutral face:

Step 1: Open an Excel file (or any Microsoft product) and move your cursor to any cell;

Step 2: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 3: Click "Shapes" from the "Illustrations" section (this is Excel 2019 and after, please click "Shapes" directly in the "Illustrations" section if you have an earlier version);

Step 4: Click "Smiley Face" shape from the "Basic Shapes" section;

Step 5: Draw a smiley face in the worksheet anywhere you want.

– To draw a perfect round happy face, please press and hold the "Shift" key when you drawing;

– To draw a random shape happy face, you can just click and drag your cursor to the size you want.

Turn a Happy Face into Sad/Neutral Face

Step 6: You can turn a happy face to sad or neutral face by clicking on the happy face;

Step 7: Click on the yellow dot in the middle of the mouth and drag up;

– When the mouth line becomes horizontal, you get a neutral face; and

– Keep dragging the mouth up and you will get a sad face.
