Sports Day, formerly known as Health and Sports Day, is a public holiday in Japan, and it is observed on the second Monday in October each year. The holiday commemorates the opening of the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, and it is a holiday to encourage and inspire good health and more exercise.
