Tynwald Day (Isle of Man)

Tynwald Day is a public holiday in the Isle of Man, and it is normally observed on July 5 each year. However, the celebration day will fall on the following Monday when the holiday occurs on a Saturday or Sunday.

Tynwald is the name of the Isle of Man parliament, and it is the oldest parliament in the world at over 1,000 years old. The members of the Manx parliament will gather on Tynwald Hill on Tynwald Day each year, and proclaim the new laws developed in the preceding year before thousands of audience.

Tynwald Hill is a four-tiered hill and it is located in St Johns. It is one of the island's most famous landmarks. All Acts of Tynwald that received Royal Assent must be promulgated on Tynwald Day, and any Act that is not promulgated within 18 months will cease to have an effect.
