That Luang Festival (Laos)

That Luang Festival is a public holiday in Laos, and it is observed on the full moon in the twelfth lunar month (November) each year.

That Luang Festival is a celebration of the religious and historical importance of Pha That Luang, a gold-covered large Buddhist stupa in the center of Vientiane. The stupa was first built in the 3rd century but has undergone several reconstructions. The place is sacred, and a holy relic of Lord Buddha was believed to be buried here.

The festival dates back to 1566 and is celebrated for three to seven days in November, with different activities on each day. Monks and lay people from all over the country gather to celebrate the festival. It is also a time for worship and spending time with families.
