St. Vitus Day (Republika Srpska)

St. Vitus Day, also known as Vidovdan, is a public holiday in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is observed on June 28 in the Gregorian calendar or June 15 in the Julian calendar each year.

St. Vitus Day is in memory of Saint Prince Lazar and the Serbian holy martyrs who lost their lives in the Battle of Kosovo against the Ottoman Empire in 1389.

The Battle of Kosovo took place on June 15, 1389 (Julian calendar), between an army led by the Serbian Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović and the invading army of the Ottoman Empire. Both armies were wiped out, and Prince Lazar was killed in the battle.
