Queen's Birthday (Turks and Caicos Islands)

Queen's Birthday is a public holiday in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and it is observed on the Monday following the second Saturday in June each year. The holiday is to celebrate the birthday of the monarch, however, the date is the Queen's official birthday, which may not be the monarch's actual birthday.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory, which consists of the larger Caicos Islands, the smaller Turks Islands, and many cays and islets. Although indigenous peoples inhabited the islands for centuries, the first record of Europeans to sight the islands is around the 1500s.

Europeans started to settle on the islands in the middle of the 17th century, and the islands became the British colony in 1783. During the early colonial period, the territory was administrated together with other islands. Although the islands became a Crown colony in 1962, it had the same governor as the Bahamas. In 1973, when the Bahamas achieved its independence from the British Empire, the islands received their own governor. Currently, the islands have their own government with the chief minister as its head.

Queen's Birthday celebration first started in 1788 marking the birthday of the King of Great Britain, and it was observed on the actual birthday in the beginning and changed to the 2nd Monday in June in 1936 after King George V died.
