Queen's Birthday (Saint Helena)

Queen's Birthday is a public holiday in Saint Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cuhna, and it is observed on the third Monday in June each year. The holiday is to celebrate the birthday of the monarch, however, the date is the Queen's official birthday, which may not be the monarch's actual birthday.

Saint Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cuhna is a British Overseas Territory located in the South Atlantic. The Portuguese found Saint Helena in the early 1500s and used the island as the supply station for food and fresh water, however, St Helena became Britain's colony in 1659.

The Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha became dependencies of Saint Helena in 1922 and 1938 respectively, and the three islands were together named Saint Helena and Dependencies, which was then changed to Saint Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha in 2009.

Queen's Birthday celebration first started in 1788 marking the birthday of the King of Great Britain, and it was observed on the actual birthday in the beginning and changed to the second Monday in June in 1936 after King George V died. However, the celebration day is different in many Commonwealth countries.
