Ninoy Aquino Day

Ninoy Aquino Day is a special non-working holiday in the Philippines, and it is observed on August 21 each year.

Ninoy Aquino Day commemorates the assassination of Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr., who was the former Senator and a well-known opposition figure of the then-President Ferdinand Marcos. On August 21, 1983, when he returned to the Philippines from United States for the parliamentary elections in 1984, he was shot and killed at the Manila International Airport. The assassination led to the downfall of the then-President Ferdinand Marcos and sparked the People Power Revolution in 1986.

Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. was the husband of Corazon Aquino, who won the election and later became the 11th president after the revolutions in 1986.

Ninoy Aquino Day was first enacted the holiday into law on February 25, 2004. The following is the list of Ninoy Aquino Day from 2021 to 2025.
