Maha Shivratri, or Maha Shivaratri, is a Hindu festival, and it falls on the new moon day in the month of Maagh according to the Hindu calendar.
Maha Shivratri celebrates annually in honor of Lord Shiva. Shiva is the third god in the Hindu triumvirate, which consists of 3 gods: Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer.
It is a restricted holiday in India and a public holiday in Nepal and Mauritius.
