Liberty Day (U.S. Virgin Islands)

Liberty Day, also known as D. Hamilton Jackson Day, is a public holiday in U.S. Virgin Islands, and it is observed on November 1 each year. The holiday is to honor David Hamilton Jackson, a Virgin Islands labor rights leader.

David Hamilton Jackson was born on September 28, 1884, on the island of St. Croix and died on May 30, 1946, at the age of 61. He was an active labor rights leader and established the first free newspaper on the island "The Herald" on November 1, 1915, which became the voice of the working class for better socio-economic conditions.

In 1981, Liberty Day was established in honor of David Hamilton Jackson and celebrated on the anniversary of when "The Herald" was established.
