How to Insert Almost Equal to (≈) in Word

When inserting an equation in the word file, you may often need to use the "almost equal to (≈)" sign or the "not equal to (≠)" sign in your formula. There are many different ways to insert these signs.

1. Google

The first method is to google the web for the "almost equal to" sign or the "not equal to" sign, then copy paste to the word file, if you have the internet available.

2. Unicode

The second method is relatively easy but you have to memorize the Unicode for these signs: 2248 for the "almost equal to" sign and 2260 for the "not equal to" sign. If you know these Unicode characters, please follow the steps below:

Type 2248 (or 2260), holding "Alt" key, then press letter "X" from the keyboard to insert the "almost equal to (or not equal to)" sign.

3. Handwriting

You can insert almost all the mathematical signs with handwriting in the word document.

Step 1: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 2: Click the small triangle right after the "Equation" command;

Step 3: Selection "Ink Equation" from the drop-down list;

Step 4: Write the "almost equal to" sign by moving your mouse cursor, or with your finger, if you have the touch screen, then click "Insert" to finish.

4. Equation method

You can insert the "almost equal to" sign similar to inserting the number pi (π) in a word file.

Step 1: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 2: Click "Equation" in the "Symbols" section;

Step 3: In the "Design" tab from the ribbon, you will see the "almost equal to (≈)" sign in the "Symbols" section.

Step 4: Click on it to insert "" into the word file.

5. Symbol method

You can also insert the "almost equal to" sign following the similar steps to insert a check mark in the word file.

Step 1: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 2: click "Symbol" in the "Symbols" section, then click "More symbols" from the drop-down list;

Step 3: Select "Symbol" in the "Font" box, and move the scroll bar down to find the symbol "≈";

Step 4: Click on it and click "Insert" at the bottom, then click "Close" to finish.
