Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast, is a country in West Africa. The British took over some parts of the country in 1874 and renamed British Gold Coast. Although there were many military engagements against the British rules, the country was officially occupied in 1900 as a result of the Anglo-Ashanti wars.
Ghana declared independence on March 6, 1957, and Kwame Nkrumah was the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana.
