Labour Day
Labour Day is observed on May 1, 2025, and it celebrates the achievements of workers. The holiday originates in the eight-hour day movement, which is eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.
Army Day
Army Day, observed on July 1, 2025, commemorates the revolution against Vicente Cerna in 1871. Vicente Cerna was the President of Guatemala from 1865 to 1871, and he was considered a dictator by many Guatemalans.
Independence Day
Independence Day, observed on September 15, 2025, commemorates the anniversary of when Guatemala gained independence from Spain on September 15, 1821.
Revolution Day
Revolution Day, observed on October 20, 2025, commemorates the uprising in 1944 which overthrew Jorge Ubico's presidency. Jorge Ubico was elected as the 21st President of Guatemala and Ubico's rule has been characterized as totalitarian.
All Saints' Day
All Saints' Day is observed on November 1, 2025, and commemorates all the saints from Christian history, including those known and unknown.
Christmas Day
Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25, 2025, and commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Christmas Day is a holiday of sharing. People exchange Christmas gifts and cards with families and friends. The holiday celebrates two days: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
