The History of National Sovereignty and Children's Day?
On April 23, 1920, during the Turkish War of Independence, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, established the Grand National Assembly in Ankara.
This event marked the beginning of the Turkish Republic's legislative sovereignty, shifting power from the Ottoman sultanate to the people, through democratic representation.
Atatürk declared April 23 as National Sovereignty Day, a celebration of the people's will and self-determination.
In 1929, Atatürk also dedicated the day to children, believing that children are the guardians of Turkey's future.
The holiday was officially named "National Sovereignty and Children's Day", becoming the world's first and only holiday devoted to children.
