National Day is celebrated every year on September 2.
The following is the list of National Day from 2020 to 2049.
The History of National Day?
From the mid-1800s, Vietnam was colonized by France, becoming part of French Indochina along with Laos and Cambodia.
French rule imposed significant political, economic and cultural control over Vietnam, sparking resistance movements throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
During World War II, Vietnam was occupied by Japanese forces, though the French colonial administration remained in place. The wartime chaos allowed Vietnamese nationalist movements to grow in strength, especially the Viet Minh, led by Hồ Chí Minh.
After Japan's surrender in August 1945, French power in Vietnam collapsed, creating a brief power vacuum.
On September 2, 1945, Hồ Chí Minh stood before a crowd in Ba Đình Square, Hanoi, and read the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence. He proclaimed the creation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, asserting the country's right to be free from colonial rule.
Despite the declaration, France did not recognize Vietnamese independence, leading to the First Indochina War (1946–1954).
The conflict ended with the 1954 Geneva Accords, dividing Vietnam at the 17th parallel into: North Vietnam (Democratic Republic of Vietnam) and South Vietnam (Republic of Vietnam).
Full national reunification occurred only after the Vietnam War ended in 1975, but September 2 remained the foundational symbol of independence and sovereignty.
