National Day (UAE)

December 2

National Day (UAE)

National Day in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) marks the unification of the seven emirates in 1971 and the founding of the UAE as an independent, sovereign nation.

When is National Day?

National Day is observed on December 2 each year.

The following is the list of National Day from 2020 to 2049.

The History of National Day?

The territory now known as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was once called the Trucial States, a group of sheikhdoms along the southeastern Persian Gulf.

From the 1800s until the mid-20th century, these emirates were under a British protectorate agreement, primarily for protection and maritime peace.

By the late 1960s, as the British announced their intention to withdraw from the region, the local rulers began exploring ways to unite and manage their affairs independently.

On December 2, 1971, six emirates Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah agreed to form the United Arab Emirates. The seventh emirate, Ras Al Khaimah, joined the federation shortly after on February 10, 1972.

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ruler of Abu Dhabi, was elected the first president of the UAE and is widely honored as the Father of the Nation.

The UAE was built on principles of cooperation, stability, and mutual progress.

The unification allowed the emirates to modernize infrastructure, develop a shared economy and defense, and strengthen national identity and global presence.

Over the decades, the UAE has evolved into a global leader in finance, technology, culture and diplomacy.
