The History of May Day?

Labour Day has its roots in the Haymarket affair in Chicago, 1886, where workers protested for an eight-hour workday.

Following this, in 1889, the Second International (a socialist organization) declared May 1st as International Workers' Day to commemorate the Haymarket martyrs and advance workers' causes.

May Day has been celebrated in Sweden since 1890, as part of the global labor movement's demand for improved working conditions—especially the eight-hour workday.

In Sweden, the first May Day demonstrations were organized by socialist and labor groups, particularly the Social Democratic Party and trade unions. It quickly became a powerful symbol of unity and a platform to demand fair wages, labor protections and social justice.

By 1939, May 1 was officially declared a public holiday in Sweden, reflecting the country's strong labor traditions and political influence of the workers' movement.
