The History of Labour Day?

The idea of Labour Day (also known as International Workers' Day) originated from the late 19th-century labor movement, particularly the 1886 Haymarket Affair in Chicago, where workers protested for the eight-hour workday.

In 1889, the International Socialist Congress declared May 1 as International Workers' Day.

In Venezuela, Labour Day was officially recognized as a public holiday starting in 1936, during the presidency of Eleazar López Contreras. This was part of broader efforts at the time to introduce labor protections and rights following decades of worker activism.

The day became a symbol of workers' rights and social justice, highlighting the struggles and contributions of laborers across all sectors.

Labour Day in Venezuela is both a day of rest and political significance. In many years, the President of Venezuela has used Labour Day as an occasion to announce new labor policies, especially given Venezuela's history of economic challenges and high inflation.
