The History of Constitution and Flag Day?
Constitution Day:
After gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Turkmenistan needed to establish its own legal and political framework as a sovereign state.
On May 18, 1992, Turkmenistan adopted its first independent Constitution. This constitution defined the structure of government, citizens' rights and freedoms, and the principles of neutrality and sovereignty.
The 1992 Constitution marked Turkmenistan's official transition from Soviet rule to an independent republic, affirming the country's political and legal identity.
Since then, May 18 has been observed as Constitution Day, celebrating statehood and the rule of law.
Flag Day:
Turkmenistan adopted its national flag on February 19, 1992, soon after independence. For several years, February 19 was celebrated as National Flag Day.
In 2018, the Turkmen government decided to combine Constitution Day (May 18) and Flag Day (February 19) into a single national holiday celebrated on May 18.
