Constitution Day (Tajikistan)

Constitution Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Tajikistan, observed on November 6 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary when the Constitution of Tajikistan was adopted in 1994.

Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia. People inhabited the territory for thousands of years under different empires and dynasties. In the late 19th century, the Russian Empire took control of Central Asia.

The Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was created as a part of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924, but it became the constituent Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic in 1929. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Tajikistan declared independence on September 9, 1991. However, the nation fell into a civil war after the independence, which lasted 5 years until 1997.

The Constitution of Tajikistan was first adopted on November 6, 1994. As the country's fundamental law, the Constitution defines the structure of the government, basic rights, and responsibilities of citizens. Since its adoption, the Constitution has been amended several times.
