Children's Day is a public holiday in Vanuatu, and it is observed on July 24 each year. The holiday is in honor of children, promoting awareness and fighting child abuse.
Vanuatu is an island country located in the South Pacific Ocean. People began to inhabit the islands about 3000 years ago. Both France and the United Kingdom were interested in the islands and they agreed to administer the islands jointly in 1906.
Following the decolonization after World War II, independent movements in Vanuatu started in the early 1970s. On July 30, 1980, Vanuatu gained independence. In response to the United Nations on the Rights of Children, Children's Day was first celebrated in Port Vila, the Capital of Vanuatu, and is celebrated in all provinces.
The main theme of the holiday has been stopping violence against children. During the holiday, many celebrations including concerts and sports events are held across the country. Most parents will spend time together with their children.
