Children's Day is a public holiday in Japan, and it is observed on May 5 each year.
Children's Day is a day to celebrate children's health and happiness and to respect children's personalities. Traditionally, May 5 (double fifth) was a festival for boys, and the girls' festival is on March 3 (double third).
During the holiday, families will raise the koinobori, carp-shaped windsocks above the roofs of houses, with black ones for the father, red ones for the mother, and small ones for the children.
