Africa Day

Africa Day is a public holiday in various countries in the African continent, and it is observed on May 25 each year.

Africa Day commemorates the anniversary when the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was established on May 25, 1963. There were several aims to establish the OAU such as intensifying the cooperation of the African states, defending independence, and eradicating all forms of colonialism.

However, over the years, the organization struggled to enforce its decisions because of its lack of armed forces. On July 9, 2002, it was disbanded, and replaced with the African Union, which upholds many of the founding principles of the OAU.
