Tamu Losar is a holiday in Nepal and the state of Sikkim, India, and it is celebrated on 15 Poush of the Nepali calendar, which is December 30 in the Gregorian calendar.
Tamu is the original people from Nepal, also called Gurungs, and Losar means "New Year". Tamu Losar is celebrated as the New Year by the Gurung people. During the festival, the lamas establish the statue of Buddha and pray for joy and happiness for people in the new year. People wear traditional clothes and perform cultural and folk dancing.
