How to Group Dates in the Pivot Table

In Excel, when drag date variable to the Row box, dates will automatically generate two new variables: "Years" and "Quarters", and data will be grouped by "Years".

However, you can change to other groups such as quarter or month, please see below for details:

Step 1: Move your mouse to the column with dates;

Step 2: Right-click and select "Group" from the list;

Step 3: In the Grouping window, decide the start and end dates, or use the default for all the dates;

Step 4: Select the grouping criterion, for example, Quarter;

Step 5: Click "OK" at the bottom.
