During a youth rally held that year\, Dr. Fulford made a passionate appeal to the government\, urging them to move beyond symbolic gestures and formally recognize the contributions and potential of the country's young people. \nAt that time\, youth made up about 80% of the population\, and yet there was no dedicated Department of Youth or National Youth Council. Dr. Fulford's call to action challenged the leadership to invest meaningfully in the development and recognition of youth\, including the creation of platforms and institutions that would support their growth. \nAs a result of this push\, National Youth Day was proclaimed\, and it has since been observed annually on the last Friday of September. The day celebrates the value\, energy\, and promise of TCI's youth and serves as a reminder of the essential role young people play in the nation's present and future.
