Shortly after\, Heroes' Day was formalized by the new government to ensure that the sacrifices of liberation war heroes would be remembered by future generations. \nThe National Heroes Acre in Harare was constructed with North Korean assistance in the early 1980s as a symbolic and physical resting place for the most revered figures.
