Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday are both official public holidays in Venezuela\, widely celebrated across the country. \nThe Carnival tradition in Venezuela has roots in European Catholic practices brought over by Spanish colonists. Carnival was historically seen as a time of feasting and revelry before the solemn\, fasting period of Lent. \nOver time\, these European traditions blended with African\, Indigenous\, and Caribbean cultural influences\, making Venezuelan Carnival distinctively colorful and diverse. \nCarnival in Venezuela has historically been seen as a time for social inversion\, where people from all backgrounds and social classes come together in public celebration. \nToday\, Carnival Monday and the full Carnival period remains one of Venezuela's most anticipated and celebrated holidays.

It is observed on the third Monday of February\, serving as a midterm break for schools and a public holiday for workers. \nUnlike traditional holidays tied to historical or religious events\, this one was created for social and practical reasons\, emphasizing rest and community well-being during the winter term. \nThe idea for a midterm winter holiday originated within Gibraltar's education system\, which mirrors the British academic structure that includes breaks in both autumn and spring. The February midterm was designed to give students and teachers a short pause between the start of the year and the Easter break\, helping reduce stress and improve overall academic performance. \nRecognizing the importance of synchronized family time\, the Gibraltar Government later declared this date a bank holiday\, ensuring that families could enjoy a shared break. \nOver time\, the Winter Midterm Bank Holiday became part of Gibraltar's official list of public holidays\, joining a mix of traditional celebrations and seasonal rest days. The holiday holds no political or religious association\, making it a neutral day of rest and recreation.

Together with Carnival Monday\, it gives Venezuelans two days of state-sanctioned festivity before Lent.

The day is the final celebration before Ash Wednesday\, marking the start of Lent in the Christian calendar. \nCarnival traditions were brought to Uruguay by Spanish colonizers and other European immigrants during the 18th and 19th centuries. These pre-Lenten festivals involved parades and street celebrations\, held just before the fasting and reflection period of Lent. \nAt the same time\, the Afro-Uruguayan community\, largely descendants of enslaved Africans\, introduced Candombe\, a drumming and dance tradition\, and it became an essential part of Carnival celebrations. \nDuring the 20th century\, both Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday became official public holidays in Uruguay. This allowed workers and students time off to participate in Carnival festivities. \nIn the mid-1900s\, Carnival Tuesday grew in popularity as a day for final public celebrations before Lent. \nDuring Uruguay's military dictatorship (1973–1985)\, Carnival—including Carnival Tuesday—became a rare outlet for free speech. \nToday\, Carnival Tuesday remains a national public holiday\, although the style of celebration has changed. Large-scale parades are less common on this specific day.

In India\, it has ancient roots: linked to fertility rituals\, the legend of Prahlad and Holika (victory of good over evil)\, and the playful color\, throwing of Krishna and Radha. \nBetween 1873 and 1916\, about 34\,000 Indian indentured laborers were brought from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in India to Suriname by the Dutch colonial government to work on sugar plantations. \nThese migrants carried with them their religion\, language\, music\, and festivals. Among the most important festivals transplanted was Phagwa (Holi). \nInitially celebrated in temple courtyards\, villages\, and plantation communities\, Phagwa served as both a religious and social festival. It quickly became a festival of solidarity\, bringing joy to laborers who lived under harsh colonial conditions. \nOver time\, Phagwa transcended its Hindu origins and became a national cultural celebration. It was embraced by all ethnic and religious groups in Suriname\, symbolizing unity in diversity. \nToday\, Phagwa is recognized as a national holiday\, and public celebrations fill the streets with music\, dancing and vibrant colors.

In 1922\, following the Bolshevik Revolution\, the Soviet Union officially recognized March 8 as International Women's Day\, a practice adopted by Uzbekistan as part of the USSR . \nUzbekistan\, as part of the Soviet Union\, first began officially celebrating International Women's Day in the 1920s. The day was introduced as part of broader Soviet campaigns for women's emancipation and inclusion in the workforce. \nA pivotal event in Uzbekistan's Women's Day history was the Hujum\, launched on March 8\, 1927. The Soviet government initiated this campaign to encourage Muslim women in Central Asia (including Uzbekistan) to unveil\, become literate\, and participate in public life. \nA famous moment linked to IWD in Uzbekistan's history was when Nurkhon Yuldashkhojayeva\, a young Uzbek dancer\, publicly removed her veil during an International Women's Day performance in 1928\, symbolizing women's liberation in Soviet Central Asia. \nAfter gaining independence in 1991\, Uzbekistan retained March 8 as a public holiday\, though the focus shifted from its Soviet political roots to a more cultural and family-centered celebration. \nThe day is now widely celebrated as both International Women's Day and Mother's Day\, honoring women's roles in family\, society\, education\, and the economy.

It recognizes youth contributions in national development and promotes engagement in social\, political and economic spheres. \nThe roots of Youth Day in Zambia go back to the struggle for independence\, which culminated in 1964. Many young people participated in protests and political mobilization against British colonial rule in the 1950s and early 1960s. \nAfter gaining independence\, the Zambian government sought to recognize youth efforts in achieving freedom and continue encouraging them to take part in nation-building. \nMarch 12th was designated as Youth Day to commemorate the contributions of young freedom fighters. \nWhile not tied to a single event or uprising\, the day symbolizes the youth's involvement in political activism and transformation. \nOver time\, the day has evolved from a remembrance of the past to a celebration of youth empowerment and civic participation. Since the 1970s and 1980s\, Youth Day has taken on greater national significance.

In this case\, Songkran marks the sun's movement into Aries\, signaling the solar new year in many South and Southeast Asian cultures. \nSongkran has been celebrated in Thailand for centuries\, likely beginning during the Sukhothai or early Ayutthaya periods (13th–15th centuries). The festival originated as a seasonal and spiritual observance: a time to honor ancestors\, clean homes\, wash Buddha images\, and visit temples. \nIt reflected a combination of Hindu solar calendar traditions\, Buddhist merit-making practices\, and agricultural cycles tied to the end of the dry season. \nStarting in the 20th century\, especially post-1950s\, Songkran evolved into a nationwide festival\, with playful water fights emerging as the most recognizable symbol. \nSongkran bridges past and present\, maintaining its deep historical and cultural roots while embracing joyful\, inclusive celebration.

His coronation was conducted in a grand ceremony rich in Hindu-Buddhist rituals\, symbolizing both spiritual and temporal authority. During his reign\, May 5 was observed annually as Coronation Day in Thailand. \nKing Rama X (Maha Vajiralongkorn) ascended the throne on December 1\, 2016\, and was officially crowned on May 4\, 2019. Beginning in 2020\, the Thai government rescheduled Coronation Day to May 4 to commemorate the date of his formal anointment as king.

These festivals included dancing\, fairs and community gatherings. \nMay Day also became associated with workers' rights in the late 19th and early 20th centuries\, particularly after the labor movements of the 1880s and the recognition of International Workers' Day on May 1. \nIn 1978\, the UK government introduced the Early May Bank Holiday\, fixed to the first Monday in May\, giving workers a guaranteed long weekend. \nThe Isle of Man\, while self-governing\, aligned many of its bank holidays with the UK\, and the Early May Bank Holiday was adopted on the island around the same time. \nUnlike distinctly Manx holidays such as Tynwald Day or the TT Bank Holiday\, the Early May Bank Holiday does not have unique Isle of Man traditions. \nInstead\, it reflects broader seasonal and labor-related observances\, often marked by spring fairs\, leisure activities and family time. \nToday\, the Early May Bank Holiday remains a modern addition to the Isle of Man's calendar\, offering a spring break and connecting the island to wider British and European traditions of celebrating the start of summer and honoring workers.

It was introduced to Thailand during the Sukhothai period and formalized in the Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin eras. \nThe ceremony consists of two parts Phuetcha Mongkhon Ceremony (Buddhist) and Raek Na Khwan Ceremony (Brahmin/Hindu). \n– Phuetcha Mongkhon Ceremony (Buddhist) was held in the Grand Palace\, where monks bless rice seeds to be used during the ploughing rite. \n– Raek Na Khwan Ceremony (Brahmin/Hindu) was held at Sanam Luang\, and it features symbolic ploughing by royal representatives and sacred oxen. \nThe ceremony was discontinued in the 1920s\, and it was revived in 1960 by King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) to reestablish the monarchy-agriculture bond. Since then\, it has been overseen by the King or Crown Prince\, conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture\, and televised nationwide. \nRitual Details: \nThe Lord of the Ceremony (a high-ranking official) performs a ceremonial ploughing of the field using a golden plough pulled by sacred white oxen. \nThe oxen are offered trays of food: rice\, corn\, beans\, grass\, water and alcohol. The choice of food they eat is believed to predict the coming season's agricultural fortune. \nBlessed rice seeds are then sown by court officials as a symbol of abundance.

This constitution defined the structure of government\, citizens' rights and freedoms\, and the principles of neutrality and sovereignty. \nThe 1992 Constitution marked Turkmenistan's official transition from Soviet rule to an independent republic\, affirming the country's political and legal identity. \nSince then\, May 18 has been observed as Constitution Day\, celebrating statehood and the rule of law. \nFlag Day: \nTurkmenistan adopted its national flag on February 19\, 1992\, soon after independence. For several years\, February 19 was celebrated as National Flag Day. \nIn 2018\, the Turkmen government decided to combine Constitution Day (May 18) and Flag Day (February 19) into a single national holiday celebrated on May 18.

Whit Monday was a long-standing Christian holiday observed for centuries across the British Isles. \nIn the 1960s\, the UK sought to modernize its holiday system by fixing dates to provide predictable long weekends rather than relying on movable feasts. \nIn 1967\, the UK officially replaced Whit Monday with the Spring Bank Holiday\, celebrated on the last Monday in May. The Isle of Man\, though self-governing\, mirrored this change to keep its bank holiday calendar broadly aligned with the UK. \nThe Spring Bank Holiday became an established public holiday on the island in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It did not carry specific Manx traditions like Tynwald Day or the TT Bank Holiday\, but it quickly became an important seasonal break. \nToday\, the Spring Bank Holiday continues to serve as a modern holiday of convenience rather than a traditional festival\, offering a pause at the start of summer.

It was first established in 1973 by the Irish government. Its purpose was to provide a designated summer holiday weekend for workers and families. \nBefore 1973\, Ireland's older public holidays were mainly linked to religious feast days (e.g.\, St. Patrick's Day\, St. Stephen's Day) or ancient seasonal traditions (e.g.\, May Day/Bealtaine). \nThe June holiday was created to give people a break at the start of summer\, align Ireland more closely with UK and European bank holiday practices\, where summer long weekends were already common\, and support tourism\, sports and festivals\, especially as June is the beginning of Ireland's busiest outdoor season. \nSince its introduction\, the June Bank Holiday has become strongly associated with sports\, festivals and community events. Unlike older holidays\, it does not carry a religious or nationalist meaning\, it is purely a civic and leisure holiday.

Over centuries\, it evolved into a uniquely Swedish holiday with maypole dancing\, flower wreaths\, folklore\, and festive meals. \nMidsummer celebrations date back to pagan times\, connected to the summer solstice and fertility rituals. People believed that nature was at its most powerful during the longest day of the year. Plants and herbs gathered on Midsummer Eve were thought to have strong healing and magical properties. \nWith Christianity\, Midsummer was associated with the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (June 24). The church tried to Christianize the existing solstice festivities by linking them to a religious feast day. \nBy the 16th century\, Midsummer was one of the most important popular festivals in Sweden. The maypole became a central tradition (likely introduced from Germany in the late Middle Ages). \nIn 1900s\, Midsummer became increasingly tied to national identity and rural heritage\, celebrated as a symbol of Swedish culture. \nIn 1953\, Sweden standardized Midsummer celebrations by moving Midsummer Day to the Saturday between June 20–26\, instead of June 24. This allowed for a consistent long holiday weekend. \nToday\, it is second only to Christmas in importance and marks the start of the summer holiday season.
