Local fishermen were struggling to catch fish in the Paraíba River as they prepared for the visit of a regional governor\, Dom Pedro de Almeida e Portugal\, Count of Assumar. \nThree fishermen\, Domingos Garcia\, João Alves\, and Filipe Pedroso\, prayed to the Virgin Mary for help. Casting their nets\, they first pulled up a small clay statue of a headless figure from the river. When they cast their nets again\, they found the missing head. After retrieving and cleaning the statue\, they continued fishing\, and to their astonishment\, their nets filled with fish. \nThe fishermen took this as a miracle\, and word of the event spread quickly. The little dark-skinned clay statue\, later recognized as Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception\, came to be affectionately called Nossa Senhora Aparecida\, meaning "Our Lady Who Appeared". \nThe statue was first kept in the home of Filipe Pedroso\, where neighbors gathered to pray. Reports of miracles and healings attributed to Our Lady of Aparecida multiplied\, and devotion to her spread across the region. In 1745\, a small chapel was built to house the statue\, and by 1834\, a larger church\, the Old Basilica\, was constructed to accommodate growing numbers of pilgrims. \nIn 1904\, Pope Pius X authorized the canonical coronation of Our Lady of Aparecida\, officially recognizing her as a sacred symbol of devotion. Later\, in 1930\, Pope Pius XI declared her the Patroness of Brazil\, cementing her status as a national spiritual figure. \nThe Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida\, built to replace the older church\, began construction in 1955 and was completed in 1980. That same year\, Pope John Paul II visited Brazil and consecrated the new basilica\, recognizing it as one of the largest Marian shrines in the world. In 1980\, the Brazilian government officially established October 12 as a national holiday dedicated to Our Lady of Aparecida\, blending religious reverence with cultural celebration. \nToday\, millions of pilgrims visit the Basilica of Aparecida each year\, especially on October 12\, walking\, cycling or even traveling long distances on foot to express devotion and gratitude.

Christian churches\, especially in the Pacific\, were early promoters of the celebration\, tying it to religious services and family values. \nSamoa\, with its strong Christian foundation and emphasis on family and respect for parents\, embraced Mother's Day early in the 20th century through church influence. \nBy the mid-1900s\, it had become a well-established observance in Samoan communities\, marked with special church services\, family gatherings and feasting. \nRecognizing the importance of mothers in both family life and Samoan society\, the Government of Samoa declared Mother's Day a public holiday\, making it unique among Pacific nations. \nMother's Day is one of Samoa's most beloved holidays\, blending Christian devotion\, Samoan cultural traditions and modern gifting customs. It symbolizes the central role of women and mothers in Samoan social life\, and the extra public holiday highlights how deeply valued motherhood is in the nation.

SUMMARY:Royal Ploughing Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Royal Ploughing Ceremony is an ancient Thai tradition held each year in May\, marking the beginning of the rice-growing season. The ceremony blends Hindu and Buddhist rituals\, symbolizing prosperity\, good harvests\, and the close relationship between the Thai monarchy and agriculture. \nWhen is Royal Ploughing Ceremony?\nRoyal Ploughing Ceremony varies each May\, and it is determined annually by royal astrologers and Brahmin priests. \nThe following is the list of Royal Ploughing Ceremony from 2020 to 2029. \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n HolidayDateWeekday\n\n\n\n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 11\, 2020Monday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 10\, 2021Monday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 13\, 2022Friday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 11\, 2023Thursday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 06\, 2024Monday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 09\, 2025Friday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 11\, 2026Monday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 20\, 2027Thursday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 12\, 2028Friday \n \n Royal Ploughing CeremonyMay 01\, 2029Tuesday \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\nThe History of Royal Ploughing Ceremony?\nThe Royal Ploughing Ceremony has origins dating back over 2\,500 years\, with similar rituals found in India\, Cambodia\, Myanmar\, and Sri Lanka. It was introduced to Thailand during the Sukhothai period and formalized in the Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin eras. \nThe ceremony consists of two parts Phuetcha Mongkhon Ceremony (Buddhist) and Raek Na Khwan Ceremony (Brahmin/Hindu). \n– Phuetcha Mongkhon Ceremony (Buddhist) was held in the Grand Palace\, where monks bless rice seeds to be used during the ploughing rite. \n– Raek Na Khwan Ceremony (Brahmin/Hindu) was held at Sanam Luang\, and it features symbolic ploughing by royal representatives and sacred oxen. \nThe ceremony was discontinued in the 1920s\, and it was revived in 1960 by King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) to reestablish the monarchy-agriculture bond. Since then\, it has been overseen by the King or Crown Prince\, conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture\, and televised nationwide. \nRitual Details: \nThe Lord of the Ceremony (a high-ranking official) performs a ceremonial ploughing of the field using a golden plough pulled by sacred white oxen. \nThe oxen are offered trays of food: rice\, corn\, beans\, grass\, water and alcohol. The choice of food they eat is believed to predict the coming season's agricultural fortune. \nBlessed rice seeds are then sown by court officials as a symbol of abundance.
