During a youth rally held that year\, Dr. Fulford made a passionate appeal to the government\, urging them to move beyond symbolic gestures and formally recognize the contributions and potential of the country's young people. \nAt that time\, youth made up about 80% of the population\, and yet there was no dedicated Department of Youth or National Youth Council. Dr. Fulford's call to action challenged the leadership to invest meaningfully in the development and recognition of youth\, including the creation of platforms and institutions that would support their growth. \nAs a result of this push\, National Youth Day was proclaimed\, and it has since been observed annually on the last Friday of September. The day celebrates the value\, energy\, and promise of TCI's youth and serves as a reminder of the essential role young people play in the nation's present and future.

Some advocates worked tirelessly to establish a day of recognition for Native Americans. \n–  In 1935\, Native American Day was first recognized in the state of New York\, and the idea of a dedicated day to honor Native Americans spread slowly to other states. \n–  In 1989\, South Dakota established Native American Day\, observed on the second Monday of October\, replacing Columbus Day\, officially recognizing Native American contributions. \n–  In 1990\, President George H.W. Bush declared November as National American Indian Heritage Month. \n–  In 2008\, President George W. Bush signed the law of Native American Heritage Day Act\, and this act officially designated the Friday after Thanksgiving as Native American Heritage Day. \n \nWhat Do People Do on This Day?\nAmerican Indian Heritage Day is a time for celebrating\, learning about\, and honoring Native American cultures\, histories\, and contributions. Observances vary widely depending on the region and the community. \nTraditional gatherings featuring music\, dance\, and ceremonial activities are very common in some communities. while some storytelling and oral traditions may share Native American myths\, legends\, and personal histories. \nSchools may host assemblies\, workshops\, or discussions about Native American history\, culture\, and contributions to society. \nMany people use the day to volunteer with organizations that work on issues like Native American education\, health\, or legal advocacy. \nIn states where American Indian Heritage Day is a holiday (such as the Friday after Thanksgiving)\, some government offices and schools may be closed\, providing an opportunity for broader participation in events or personal reflection. \nAmerican Indian Heritage Day is part of a larger movement to recognize and respect Native American heritage in the United States. It serves as a reminder of the rich and diverse contributions of Native peoples and the need to address the challenges they face today\, including cultural preservation\, legal rights\, and social equity. \nAmerican Indian History\nAmerican Indian History spans thousands of years and reflects the diverse cultures\, innovations\, and experiences of the Indigenous peoples of North America. \n\nIndigenous peoples are believed to have migrated to North America via the Bering Land Bridge around 12\,000–20\,000 years ago. Over time\, they developed distinct cultures\, languages\, and societies adapted to the environments.\nBy the time Europeans arrived\, there were hundreds of tribes speaking over 300 languages\, ranging from nomadic hunters to settled agriculturalists.\nChristopher Columbus's arrival in 1492 initiated widespread contact between Europeans and Native peoples.\nEarly explorers and settlers brought trade\, diseases (e.g.\, smallpox)\, and conflict\, leading to significant population declines among Indigenous peoples.\nThe new United States (1776–1860) expanded westward\, leading to forced displacement of Native peoples through treaties\, wars\, and land seizures. During this time\, the efforts to assimilate Native Americans into European-American culture began\, including the establishment of missions and boarding schools.\nMany conflicts like the Battle of Little Bighorn (1876) and Wounded Knee Massacre (1890) marked violent resistance to U.S. encroachment. Tribes were confined to reservations through treaties\, often on land far from their original territories.\nIn 1924\, the Indian Citizenship Act granted U.S. citizenship to all Native Americans. The Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 aimed to restore some tribal self-governance.\nIn the 1960s and 1970s\, the Civil Rights Movement highlighted Native issues such as land rights\, sovereignty\, and cultural preservation.\nNowadays\, native communities continue to face challenges such as poverty\, health disparities\, and legal battles over land and resources.

Leading up to the Grand Final\, Melbourne hosts a Grand Final Parade\, where thousands of fans gather to celebrate the competing teams. \nThe Victorian Government introduced the public holiday to allow more people to participate in the festivities and to boost tourism and business activities. \nThe public holiday was first observed on Friday\, September 30\, 2015. Then-Premier Daniel Andrews introduced it as part of his election promise to support local businesses and enhance public participation in AFL celebrations. \nThe holiday has become a key part of AFL Grand Final week\, encouraging large crowds to gather in Melbourne's CBD for the parade. It has contributed to increased domestic tourism\, as fans travel to Melbourne for the Grand Final. \nThe AFL Grand Final Parade remains the biggest event of the day\, featuring players from both Grand Final teams. \n \nWhat Do People Do on This Day?\nFriday before the AFL Grand Final is primarily a day of celebration and AFL-related activities. \nAFL Grand Final Parade is held in Melbourne\, and this is the biggest public event of the day. Thousands of fans line the streets to see the players and soak in the atmosphere. \nMajor TV networks air AFL-themed shows\, past Grand Final highlights\, and expert analysis. Radio stations and sports bars host discussions and debates on match predictions. \nMany Victorians use the holiday to host barbecues and AFL-themed parties. Friends and family get together to talk football and enjoy a day off. \nSpecial AFL-themed menus and promotions are common. Some Victorians take advantage of the long weekend to travel to regional areas or beaches. \nSome fans set up home theaters or outdoor screens for the ultimate Grand Final viewing experience. \nThe day is filled with excitement\, and AFL fever across Victoria. Whether attending the Grand Final Parade\, or heading to a sports bar\, most people use the holiday to celebrate Australian rules football in their own way. \nMore about AFL Grand Final\nThe AFL Grand Final is the championship match of the Australian Football League (AFL)\, held annually to determine the season's premier team. It is the biggest sporting event in Australia. \nThe Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne\, Victoria has hosted almost every Grand Final since 1902. The final is traditionally held the last Saturday in September or the first Saturday in October if the season runs longer. \nA public holiday in Victoria allows thousands of fans to attend the Grand Final Parade in Melbourne's CBD. \nThe game has four quarters of 20 minutes each (plus time-on)\, and the team that scores the most points wins and is crowned AFL Premiers. \nThe winning team is awarded the AFL Premiership Cup\, with players celebrating on the podium in front of thousands of fans. \nThe MCG is packed with over 100\,000 fans\, making it one of the highest-attended sporting events in the world. Millions watch on TV\, with the AFL Grand Final regularly being Australia's most-watched TV program of the year. \nAFL is deeply embedded in Australian culture\, particularly in Victoria\, South Australia\, and Western Australia. It is considered Australia's equivalent of the Super Bowl or the FA Cup Final. Winning an AFL Grand Final cements a team's legacy and brings lifelong glory to players and fans.

Abdullah al-Sallal became the republic's first president. \nThe revolution sparked an 8-year civil war between Republicans\, backed by Egypt and Royalists\, supported by Saudi Arabia\, Jordan\, and some Western powers. \nThe war devastated the country but ended with victory for the Republicans\, and international recognition of the Yemen Arab Republic. \nThe 1962 Revolution ended monarchical rule and introduced republican governance based on modern ideals of equality\, education and secular state-building.

Together with 500 women from the Sakya clan\, she requested to be ordained into the Sangha. Initially\, the Buddha refused her request\, concerned about the challenges women might face as monastics. \nVen. Ananda Thera\, the Buddha's attendant and one of his closest disciples\, intervened. He respectfully questioned the Buddha: were women capable of achieving the same spiritual attainments (enlightenment\, arahantship) as men if ordained? \nThe Buddha confirmed that women were indeed capable of reaching the highest spiritual goals. Following this\, the Buddha permitted the ordination of women. \nMahāpajāpati Gotami and her companions became the first Bhikkhunis (nuns). With their ordination\, the Fourfold Sangha was completed: Bhikkhus (monks)\, Bhikkhunis (nuns)\, Upasakas (laymen) and Upasikas (laywomen). This was a groundbreaking step in religious history\, affirming the role of women in spiritual life. \nThe Bhikkhuni Order flourished in India and Sri Lanka for many centuries. Sri Lanka\, in particular\, became a center of Bhikkhuni training. Sri Lankan nuns later helped re-establish the order in other countries.

The Torah instructs that on the 15th of Tishrei\, Israelites should observe a seven-day festival. \nIt had a dual purpose: agricultural (a harvest festival at the end of the year\, celebrating the ingathering of crops) and historical (commemorating the Israelites' 40 years of wandering in the desert\, when they lived in temporary shelters (sukkot)). \nDuring the First Temple and Second Temple periods\, Sukkot was one of the major pilgrimage festivals. Israelites traveled to Jerusalem to bring sacrifices and participate in ceremonies. \nThe First Day of Sukkot was treated as a holy convocation (Yom Tov) with no labor permitted\, sacrifices offered and rituals performed at the Temple. \nAfter the destruction of the Second Temple\, the pilgrimage and sacrificial aspects could no longer be performed. \nAfter the founding of Israel in 1948\, Sukkot regained its public\, national dimension. The First Day continues to be observed as a holy day in religious communities\, but it also launches a nationwide cultural period: \nThe holiday week is filled with festivals\, concerts\, parades\, and tourism. In Israel\, Sukkot is 7 days long\, so the first day (15 Tishrei) and the last day (Shemini Atzeret) are the primary festival days. \nAfter the founding of Israel in 1948\, Sukkot regained its public\, national dimension. The First Day continues to be observed as a holy day in religious communities\, but it also launches a nationwide cultural period.
