Adwa Victory Day

Adwa Victory Day is a public holiday in Ethiopia, and it is observed on March 2 each year.

Adwa Victory Day celebrates the Ethiopian victory over the Kingdom of Italy in the Battle of Adwa, the climactic battle of the First Italo-Ethiopian War. The battle was fought on March 1, 1896, near the town of Adwa between Ethiopia and the Kingdom of Italy.

The battle was the last and the most decisive battle against the invading colonial forces of Italy. The Ethiopian victory prevented the Kingdom of Italy from expanding its colonial empire in Ethiopia and remained independent of Ethiopia until the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, fought between 1935 and 1937, 40 years later.
